Marquette Redmen Boys Basketball defeats Negaunee Miners (67-55) on Good Time Oldies 97.5 GTO

Marquette, Michigan– 02/15/2018– The Marquette Redmen Boys Basketball team stayed home this Thursday night to take on the Negaunee Miners. The Redmen came into this game a 10-5 while the Miners were 7-10 on the season. Jacob Ogea brought you all of the action from this game on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1.
The Miners wore their road gold with blue trim as the Redmen wore their home white with red trim. Marquette won the tip-off to start off the game. The Redmen started off the game with a trail of 3’s for Marquette and they were ahead by eleven before the Miners got the chance to score. The Miners were trying to foul Marius Grazulis, Redmen key player, for the second time in the first and they were able to do so a few minutes before the buzzer. Raffy Millado and Marias Grazulis were forces to go up against for the Miners. Luke Mattson, Miner, scored one of his free-throws just before the end of the first to make the score 22-9 as the Miners trailed behind the Redmen. To start off the second quarter, each team had four fouls. Right away, Negaunee was in a man-to-man defense. Brendan Kaski, Redmen, unfortunately recieved two fouls within 6 seconds and that gave the Miners the advantage with every foul an opportunity of two at the line. Jason Waterman, Miner, really stepped up for the Miners in this quarter and between him, Luke Skewis, and Jacob Ennet, they managed to keep the score deficit relatively the same. 36-21, the Miners trailed the Redmen at half-time.
In the beginning of the second half,the Miners went to the free-throw line 6 times. Marius Grezulis scored the first points for Marquette with his free-throws but later in the quarter received his third foul. The Miners were able to dominate the scoreboard in the early second half. Jason Waterman, Luke Skewis, Luke Mattson, Jakson Sager, and Drew Lindberg scored for the Miners and brought the score to an 11 point deficit. At the end of the third quarter, each team was in the penalty and the score was 53-42 as the Redmen led the Miners. Marius Grezulis came back into the game in the fourth quarter to play with his four fouls hanging in the air. Negaunee was doing a good job defensively to stay strong in the game. Theo Kumpula scored for the Miners as his put-back was good. Alex DuPont also made a show in this quarter for the Miners as he scored one of his free-throws. Keegan Erva scored a three pointer for Negaunee a few seconds before the end of the game. The Redmen won this game with a score of 67-55. After receiving the Victor’s cup, all of the Marquette Redmen gathered around it with celebration. The Miners are now 7-11 on the season and the Redmen are 11-5.

Marquette Redmen- 67
Negaunee Miners- 55
STATS: Leading all of the scorers of the night was Ethan Martysz as he scored 22 points. Scoring 18 points was Marius Grazulis. Following after him was Raffy Millado as he scored 13 points. Treylon McFerrin scored 9 points. Liam Darr scored 3 points and to round off the scoring for the Redmen, Bryce Brazeau scored 2 points.
