Wings Take On Tampa, Pistons Hopes Dwindling and 1991
- Updated: March 30, 2017
Marquette, MI – The Detroit Red Wings playoff streak is over and another rival will be taking the ice against the Wings tonight, the Tampa Bay Lightening. The Lightening are three points behind Boston for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Lightening have dominated the Red Wings winning 10 of their last 11 games against them. Tampa Bay is riding a high coming off their biggest win of the season rallying from three down to beat the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime. Tonight is a big game for Tampa as they try to make the playoffs for a second straight year.
The Detroit Pistons will be taking on a familiar foe tonight at the Palace of Auburn Hills, the Brooklyn Nets. The last time these two faced each other, the Nets Brooke Lopez knocked down a buzzer beating shot to crush the Pistons and their hopes to making the playoffs. The Pistons are currently 2 1/2 games back of the final spot in the east with 8 games left to play. Tonight’s game will tip-off at 7:30 in Detroit.
On this day 26 years ago, the Northern Michigan Wildcats Hockey team defeated Boston University in the National Championship 8-7 in three overtimes. John Thomsen and Adam Carpenter re-lived their time back in 1991 and what it was like for the city of Marquette.
