Marquette, MI – 12/18/17 – The Northern Michigan Wildcats Hockey and Mens Basketball teams collected big wins over the weekend. The mens hockey team was in action on Friday and Saturday at the Berry Events Center taking on the Ferris State Bulldogs. The Wildcats won on Friday 6-1 and on Saturday 4-2. The hockey team is now 10-8-2 on the season and play Minnesota State Mankato this weekend. The Wildcats mens basketball team  beat their rival the Michigan Tech Huskies on Sunday afternoon for the first time since 2015 with a score of 77-65. The Wildcats move to 8-3 on the season and 5-0 in the GLIAC.

The Detroit Lions got a big win on Saturday night with a 20-10 victory over the Chicago Bears. Detroit has now won two straight games and needs to collect two more wins to keep their postseason hopes alive. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was 25 of 33 for 237 yards and no turnovers to lead the Lions. On defense the Lions were led by Darius Slay who intercepted Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky two times. The Lions will now look to next Sunday’s match-up with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Green Bay Packers welcomed back an old face to the line-up on Sunday, starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers had been out since week 6 with a broken collarbone, two plates and sixteen screws later mixed and with some recovery time, he was ready to play. Unfortunately the Packers fell to the Carolina Panthers 31-24 on four touchdown passes from Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. The Packers are now 7-7 on the season and hopes of making the playoffs are gone. The Packers look to a prime time game next Sunday when they face the NFC North Winner Minnesota Vikings.
