Northern Michigan Hires Potulny, Tigers and Playoffs

Marquette, MI – The Walt Kyle regime in Marquette ended a couple months ago. Northern Michigan University officially announced a new hockey head coach this morning, Grant Potulny from the University of Minnesota. Potulny has been an assistant coach for the Gophers for the past eight seasons, helping guide them to two Frozen Fours and six consecutive regular-season conference titles. He has also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. World Junior team. Potulny is native of Grand Forks with an impressive hockey background. He played for the University of Minnesota where he graduated and played in the AHL. 

The Detroit Tigers will begin a three game series tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays in Tropicana Field. Tampa started out hit at 5-2 but have lost the past seven of eight games. The Tigers come in with the best record in the Central Division at 8-4. The Tigers will send reigning AL Rookie of the Year Michael Fulmer to the mound to face the Rays fifth starter Matt Andriese, the game starts at 7:05 pm.

The NHL and NBA playoffs have been very entertaining in the past week with many surprises. Today on the show Marquette Senior High School’s Athletic Director was in to talk about both the NBA and NHL as well as Marquette sports.
