Tigers Win Series, Penguins Beat Jackets and Marquette Softball
- Updated: April 17, 2017
Marquette, MI – The Detroit Tigers finally came away with a series victory over the Cleveland Indians 2 game to 1 with a 4-1 victory on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers struggled against the Indians last year winning four games and losing fourteen. Tigers catcher Alex Avila had a two run home run while Francisco Rodriguez came in to closeout the game in the ninth. The Tigers will now turn their focus to the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa Bay. That series will begin tomorrow night. Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer will get the start for the Tigers and Miguel Cabrera should be back after an injured back.
The NHL playoffs have been in full swing for almost a week. On Sunday the game of the night was the Columbus Blue Jackets hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovski kept the Jackets in the game but it wasn’t enough as the Jackets lost in overtime on a Jake Guentzel goal. The Penguins now take a commanding 3-0 series lead.
The softball season has kicked off for all of the local high school teams. This past weekend the “Dome Tournament” was held. The Marquette Redettes went three in one thanks to Chelsea Wiggins who had two no-hitters, one being a perfect game. The Redettes continue their play tomorrow when they travel to Negaunee to play a double-header.
