JD Martinez Traded, Detroit Tigers Stay Hot And NMU Hall Of Famers

Marquette, MI – 7/19/17 – General Manager Al Avila made a big move on Tuesday afternoon sending outfielder J.D. Martinez to the Arizona Diamondbacks in a trade that brings Detroit three prospects. The 29-year old Martinez is a former All-Star and currently is batting with a .305 average to go along with his 16 homers and 39 RBI’s. Detroit is receiving a Double-A third baseman in Dawel Lugo who is the number two prospect in the Diamondback organization. Detroit also picks up infield prospect Sergio Alcantara and shortstop Jose King.
The Detroit Tigers continues their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon with a 9-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Tigers third baseman Nicholas Catellanos had two homers in the game that brought in five runs. Tigers Victor Martinez also drove in a pair of runs. Matt Boyd made his spot start for the Tigers too going six innings allowing three runs on seven hits. The Tigers are currently five games back of the AL Central lead.
Northern Michigan University will induct five individuals into the sports hall of fame. The list includes Mandee Dafoe(Womens Basketball) , Pauline Hope (Womens Vollyball) , Jay McQuillan (Mascot) , Rick Popp (Football) and the 1979-80 Hockey Team.
