
Marquette, MI – The Northern Michigan Wildcats Hockey Team has been on fire the past two months. The Wildcats are 7-0-2 in their past nine games. The big story surrounding Northern Michigan and college hockey is the five consecutive shutouts Wildcat goal-tender Atte Tolvanen has posted the last five games. Tolvanen has now held his opponents off the score board for the last 335:35 minutes, while recording 215 consecutive saves. Atte Tolvanen was also named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for the third time in the past four weeks. The Wildcats and Tolvanen look to break history this Friday when they travel to Minnesota State.
The Detroit Pistons took one on the chin last night as they fell short of defeating the central division rival Milwaukee Bucks 102-89. The Bucks were led by former Detroit Piston Greg Monroe and Michael Beasley who combined for 48 points and forcing 17 turnovers in the Bucks victory. The Pistons were led by Marcus Morris who added 26 points followed by Andre Drummond who had another double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. The Pistons now look ahead to Wednesday as they host the Dallas Mavericks.
The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team recorded their 100th consecutive win on Monday night with a 66-55 victory over the 6th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks. The streak started shortly after November 23rd, 2014 with a win over Creighton. The Lady Huskies are looking to add to the trophy case this year with a 12th NCAA Championship.
