Marquette, MI – December 23rd, 2025 – This week, Tyler and I were fortunate to be joined by two outstanding high school athletes, and we learned a lot from both of them.
Kicking off the show was Sara Harvey, a bowler from Ishpeming High School. Harvey chose not to play basketball in high school, instead wanted to try a new winter sport. With her brother Ian already a member of the bowling team, Sara decided to give bowling a try. After her freshman year, she discovered a true passion for the sport and realized with dedication and hard work, she could excel.
Now a senior, Harvey is proving just how fortunate her decision was. In the opening tournament of the season, she rolled a meet-high 273 and is currently ranked #1 in the state. She is also competing in the Michigan Junior Masters Association, where she sits 6th in the midseason standings.
Joining us for the second half of the show was Makenna Smith, a rower from Marquette Senior High School. Smith played a key role in starting a rowing program at Marquette after her grant proposal was approved by the school board, allowing the purchase of proper equipment. The program quickly gained interest, with nine students joining in its first year.
Smith has signed to continue her rowing career at the next level and will be heading to Toledo, Ohio, where she will compete as a Rocket. During the show, she also shared valuable information for anyone interested in getting involved in rowing and how to get started.

Looking ahead to next week, we’ll be joined by Justin Florek, former NHL player for the Boston Bruins. Florek played college hockey at Northern Michigan University from 2008–2012 and was selected in the 5th round (135th overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft by Boston. Following the show, Florek plans to stick around to sign autographs and take photos.
The show takes place next Tuesday at 10:00 a.m., live from Slabz Bar & Grill, located inside the Ramada Inn. Can’t make it, tune in on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and 99.9, with a replay on 97.5 at 6:00 p.m..
