Ty Lotterman put up a double to get things started for the Redmen in the opening quarter. The Northmen responded, going one for two at the line. Kam Karp followed up with a triple to make it 5-1 in the early moments of the game. A Lincoln Sager double put the Redmen at 7-3 over Petoskey.
John Thomson put up a triple to answer a Northmen double as Marquette stayed well in control of the game in the early going. The Redmen pulled out to a 20-10 lead as Kam Karp converted on a three-point play, Marquette keeping a blistering pace against Petoskey.
The Redmen lead improved to 24-15 over the Northmen going into the second quarter of play.
Lotterman opened up another quarter with a layup for Marquette. Petoskey put in the work to get within six points, but a Sager double put the Redmen back out front by eight points. The Northmen followed up to get within five points. Again the Redmen answered, this time with a Collin Hicks triple. After a Northmen response, Hicks put away a double as Marquette fought tooth and nail to stay in control of the game.
The Redmen jumped back out to a double-digit 14-point lead with just under two minutes to go in the half. The score settled at 44-32 going into halftime, the Redmen back in control.
Marquette jumped out to a 55-39 lead with just under five minutes to go in the third quarter. Sager went two for two at the line to make it 57-39, handing the Northmen their largest deficit of the game thus far. A slight scoring drought for both teams followed the flurry of baskets that started the half. Karp went two for two at the line to break the spell. The Redmen took the lead into the fourth quarter, the score 63-49 over Petoskey.
A Sager triple helped get things going in the fourth quarter. Petoskey tried to shrink their deficit, but Marquette seemed to have an answer for every Northmen effort. The 82-70 Redmen victory was never in question as the final minutes played out.
