Marquette, MI- April 15th, 2017- The Marquette Redettes softball team was looking to make it their fourth straight victory to start the season. The team has been on fire both offensively and defensively. The offense is averaging over six runs a game and the pitching by Chelsea Wiggins has been outstanding. She has not allowed a single run and only given up one hit. They would be looking to keep the same pace against the Ishpeming Westwood Patriots.

The Redettes would surrender their first run of the season, Wiggins started this game at second base and was give the night off from the circle. Marquette was able to answer back in the bottom of the first inning due to aggressive base running and good sacrifices from the Redettes. Both teams would threaten in the second inning, getting runners in scoring position, but were unable to cash in. The Redettes would once again get runners on, they would even load the bases but were unable to bring anyone home to take the lead.

The Patriots would grab the lead again when they were able to lead the fourth inning with an in-park-home run. Marquette tied things up in the bottom half of the inning after 3 straight singles with two outs and Wiggins was able to draw a bases loaded walk to bring in a run. The Redettes were inches away from taking the lead in the fifth inning as Sophia Vandenende tried to steal home on a wild pitch but the tag was made just in time. Westwood was able to get a run in the top of the sixth and the Redettes comeback fell short when a line drive was caught with runners on second and third base.
