Marquette, MI- April 19th, 2017- The Marquette Redmen baseball team was looking to start there season 2-0 after their win against Bark River. It would not be an easy match-up for them as the Escanaba Eskymos were coming off a season in which they played deep into the playoffs last year. Both teams are young this year, with both teams not having a large senior class.

It was a quick inning to start this one, with both pitchers going 1-2-3 in the first. But in the top of the second, Marquette was able to grab their first lead of this game when John Thomson was able to hit a 2-RBI single in the hole between shortstop and 3rd base. After a tough start to the bottom of the second, Garrett Finkbeiner was able to get out of trouble thanks to a beautiful throw from center field to home plate by Blake Henriksen. The Redmen were able to rally for 2 more runs in the top of the third but the rally was cut short after some base running errors caused the final two outs of the inning. Garrett Finkbeiner was able to shut the door on the bottom of the third.

The Eskymos would make a pitching change in the fourth that seemed to slow the Redmen bats. Escanaba would tally their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth after a two out rally. Garrett Finkbeiner was able to shut that rally down quick striking out the next batter. Neither team would score in the fifth and the Redmen would make a pitching change, subbing Blake Henriksen after Garrett Finkbeiner had himself a nice outing. He only surrendered one run after 5 innings of work. Blake Henriksen had some shaky innings but ultimately was able to end this ball game with some well executed pitches and some great defense. Marquette wins this one 4-1.
