Marquette Redettes Softball Team Defeats The Norway Knights 10-0
- Updated: April 15, 2017
Marquette, MI- April 15th, 2017- The Marquette Redettes softball team was looking for a 3-0 start to their season as they were coming off 1-0 victory against the Rapid River Rockets 10 minutes prior to the start of this one. The Redettes would look to ride the arm of Chelsea Wiggins again as she was off to a great start to her senior season, allowing only one hit and a combined 26 strikeouts in the first two games. They would be up against a tough opponent in the Norway Knights. The Redettes would need to get the bats going in this one to notch a third consecutive victory.
The Redettes bats would threaten the first two innings but were unable to bring any runs home until the third. Hannah Bulinski would reach on a bunt single and the steal second base. She was bunted over to third before Chelsea Wiggins to drive her home with a single. Wiggins would eventually score after swiping second and then coming home on a suicide bunt and a throwing error. Stasha Warchuck would come home after stealing third and a throwing error on the play. Sophia Vandenende would hit a bloop double and advance to third on a wild pitch. After spotting Wiggins with three runs in the third inning, things were looking good as Wiggins through three innings would be perfect with 8 strikeouts.
Chelsea Wiggins would get her first home run of the season doubling up the run total for the Redettes. She would hit an in-the-park home run with two on base in the fourth inning. Vandenende would drive in Warchuck for another run in the same inning. The Redettes would add one more before the Knights could get out of the inning. Wiggins would double in two more runs in the 5th inning as they would go up 10-0 and apply the mercy rule. Wiggins also would pitch a perfect game and her second no-hitter of the season and the weekend.
