Marquette, MI – February 10, 2018 – We had a great afternoon at Lions Field Ice Rink in Marquette Township for the “Catch the Vision” Ice Under Cover Hockey Bash! Today’s event kicked of fundraising to build a roof over the Lions Fiend Ice Rink. Thanks to the Township’s hard work, the ice was in great shape for today’s event and the guys were ready to get out on the ice.
Starting things off with a little “pro” action, we had The Northern Michigan University Hockey Club take on the Marquette Mutineers. While it was pretty informal, the game was well fought and both teams played hard. Ryan Ranguette and Luke Ghiardi broadcasted the action live from Lions Field on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9. In the end, the Mutineers skated off the ice as the winners of the first match, 7-5.
After enjoying some gourmet subs from Jimmy John’s, we followed things up with the 3-on-3 hockey tournament. Picking up a few last minute walk-ons we pulled six teams together to play in the tournament. We had a great time bringing the community and league teams together to play in the competition. Splitting the rink in half, we ran a game on either side the rink. After single elimination games we wrapped things up with a championship game between Bar Down and Pat’s Bar.
Bar Down takes the win!
Both Bar Down and Pat’s played a tough game. Fast paced and full of action, both teams fought for the championship title hard. The game was extremely close with Bar Down winning by a single goal, 14-13. Kudos Laser Engraving donated trophies for the winning and runner up teams. Both Bar Down and Pat’s received Hockey Bash trophies for their success in the game with a custom knife going to the MVPs of each team from Lake Superior Knives.
The festivities will continue on Thursday, February 15, when NMU’s Division-I Hockey Team will play an exhibition on the Lions Field ice. After that, the next “Catch the Vision” event takes place on Saturday, March 24 with another 3-on-3 boot hockey tournament to continue raising funds for the roof over the Lions Field Rink. Come on out and support Lions Field’s ice rink and have some fun!
