Hancock, MI- February 14, 2017- The extra days off seemed to help the Marquette Redmen come out with a little more juice to start the game. Marquette had the forecheck going as they were creating scoring chance after scoring chance. The only problem was Hancock’s goaltender was standing on his head. And as the period was coming to a close the Redmen were able to notch one with 19 seconds left. After one Marquette led this game in goals, shots, scoring chances, and face offs.

It was another good start for the Redmen as they kept getting pucks down low and pushing the pace. They were winning in every category on the stat sheet to reflect the kind of compete level they were playing with. Even the penalty kill was excellent as they killed off their first penalty giving up no scoring chances against a Bulldog power play at 32%. The only flaw of the game so far for Marquette was not being able to get a goal on a long 5 on 3 power play.

As this game went on the pace was coming down a little bit, maybe starting to run out of gas. The Redmen were still winning most of the battles on the puck but unfortunately were whistled for a roughing penalty. This gave Hancock what they needed, and that’s all it took for the Bulldogs to tie things up halfway through the final period. It wasn’t long after that Hancock was able to take their first lead of the game notching another goal after a Marquette defensive breakdown. It’s not that Marquette fell flat, they competed to the final whistle, it was simply Hancock’s goalie stole this game.
