Marquette High School Hockey Closes Regular Season with Thrilling 7–7 Battle

Marquette Hockey

Marquette, MIFebruary 14, 2026 – Marquette High School Hockey traveled downstate for their final regular season matchup against the Hancock Bulldogs, riding a six-game win streak and looking to make it seven. What unfolded was one of the most back-and-forth, high-energy games of the season. Fans tuned in on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9, where Joe Gaffaney and Coach Larry Carey brought every heart-pounding moment to life.

First Period

Marquette came out flying with aggressive energy right from the opening puck drop. A slight fumble by Brody Sheldon ended up confusing the goalie and created the perfect opportunity for Marquette to strike first with a low left-side shot to open the scoring. Hancock answered with pressure in the Marquette zone, but Fin Scott came up big with two back-to-back saves to keep the Sentinels ahead.

The scoring didn’t stop there. A beautiful sequence led to a goal from Seth Sandstrom, assisted by Sheldon and Cooper Spagnola, pushing Marquette further ahead. But Hancock responded quickly, capitalizing on a rebound opportunity to even things back up. Cody Beerling answered with a quick, sharp play to regain the lead for Marquette, but Hancock’s Kirby Storm broke through shortly after, slipping one past Scott to tie it again. A late power-play rebound goal from Hancock gave them the edge heading into the break. This one was heated early.

Score:
Marquette 3 – 4 Hancock

Second Period

Hancock struck first again in the second on another rebound opportunity. But Marquette High School Hockey refused to fade. A beautiful setup from Evan Mattila, off a drop pass from Sandstrom, found Sheldon, who buried it and brought the Sentinels right back into it. The momentum swung hard, and you could feel the fire building.

Even after Hancock added another goal, including a breakaway from Storm, Marquette kept fighting. A strong center-ice play from Jack Pond set up Beerling, who danced the puck into the net and tightened the game to just one goal. Marquette applied relentless pressure late in the period, firing multiple shots on net, but Hancock’s goalie held firm.

Score:
Marquette 5 – 6 Hancock

Third Period

Three minutes into the third, Cooper Anderson delivered a huge goal to tie the game at six. From there, it was pure chaos in the best way, end-to-end action, the puck bouncing between zones, both teams fighting for control. Scott came up clutch with a huge wraparound save to keep it even, but Hancock managed to slip one through soon after to regain a one-goal lead. Then came the moment. With under ten seconds left, Jack Pond fired a turnaround shot toward the net and it found its way in. The crowd erupted. Marquette tied it 7–7 in the final seconds of regulation. Overtime was nonstop action. Both teams generated quality chances. Multiple big saves from Hancock’s goalie kept it level, and Scott held strong on the other end. After an absolutely exhausting battle, the game ended in a 7–7 tie.

What. A. Game.

Final Score:

Marquette 7 – 7 Hancock

A wild finish and an unforgettable way for Marquette High School Hockey to close out the regular season.
