Marquette, MI – February 13th, 2026 – Marquette entered the night riding a five-game winning streak, outscoring opponents by an average of 2.6 goals during that stretch, and carried that momentum into a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory on Senior Night. Despite the celebration, it won’t be the last home appearance for Marquette, as they are set to host a playoff game next week. The Sentinels knew it wouldn’t be easy against the visiting Hancock Bulldogs, who came into the home-and-home series with a 14-9-2 record.
Marquette struck first just 2:10 into the opening period when Trey Savola found the back of the net off an assist from Spagnuolo, giving the Sentinels a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission. In the second period, Brody LaMire extended the advantage to 2-0 with a power-play goal at 15:58, ripping a shot bar down from just outside the faceoff dot on the short side. Hancock answered at 12:58 when Drew Sturos went coast-to-coast and slipped the puck underneath the blocker to make it 2-1. Marquette responded later in the period as Colton Hartz buried a one-timer off assists from Beerling and Spagnuolo at 3:38, sending the Sentinels into the second intermission with a 3-1 lead.
The Bulldogs stormed back in the third, outshooting Marquette 17-4 in the period. Ted Heinonen cut the deficit to 3-2 at 13:15 with a top-shelf glove-side finish, and Connor Helminen tied the game at 3-3 with a redirected tip at 7:32. The score remained even at the end of regulation, forcing overtime. In the extra session, Carter Beerling delivered the game-winner off a faceoff draw, finishing a feed from Hartz with 2:07 remaining to secure the 4-3 victory. Click this to listen to the broadcast
Marquette returns to the ice tomorrow night as they travel to Hancock for the final regular-season game, with puck drop set for 5:30 p.m. The Sentinels will look to complete the weekend sweep before the playoffs begin next week.
