Marquette, MI – September 22nd, 2025 – Last week saw all three mediaBrew teams fall short of a victory; however, that would not be the case this week. The Hematites celebrated their homecoming this past weekend, and it was a fun game for the Hematites. The Sentinels picked up a big road win, getting some much-needed playoff points, and the Miners started hot, but it didn’t end in their favor.
Let’s began in Negaunee, where the Miners faced another challenge after suffering a loss against Calumet. The Miners started strong with Evan DellAngelo scoring another punt return touchdown, extending his streak of special teams touchdowns to four consecutive games. They quickly took a commanding 21-0 lead early in the first quarter.
However, the Kingsford Flivers refused to back down. The momentum shifted with a long run from Ian Spencer, followed by an impressive show by backup quarterback Blake Tomasoski, who filled in for the injured Jack Kriegl. Tomasoski began to exploit gaps in the Miners’ defense, throwing multiple touchdowns. The game was tied at 21 by halftime. In the second half, the Flivers maintained their momentum, scoring twice more while the Miners struggled to respond. Ultimately, Negaunee lost the game 35-21.
Next, we head downstate where the Marquette Sentinels looked to improve their standing in Saginaw. Sentinels came up a yard short last week against Gaylord, resulting in a 28-27 loss. Marquette would secure some needed playoff points taking down Saginaw United 20-12. Ford Richardson finished with eleven carries for forty-two yards, and threw for 87 yards and a TD on 7/12 completions. James Goodwin had a good day on the ground, pounding the rock eighteen times for fifty-four yards and added a touchdown. Pierce Pittsley had only one catch but made a play out of his opportunity taking it forty-five yards to the endzone.
Finally, we turn to Ishpeming where they hosted Munising for their homecoming football game. Both teams were seeking their first win of the season, however, the Mustangs would have to try to do it without their quarterback, Nolan Connaughton, who was on crutches on the sidelines.
The Hematites struck first when Josh Woji found the end zone, putting them ahead 8-0. Grady Gauthier then scored, increasing the lead to 14-0. Gauthier wasn’t finished; he scored twice more, achieving a hat trick and extending the Hematites’ lead to 30-8. In the end, the Hematites dominated the ground game, with Gauthier racking up 299 yards and three touchdowns. This impressive performance led his team to a commanding first win, finishing with a score of 52-14.
