Marquette, MI – September 8th, 2025 – Another week of high school football is in the books, and the Friday night lights illuminated some incredible performances across our area. From nail-biting finishes to highlight plays that will be talked about for weeks, the teams left it all on the field. Let’s dive into the highlights, top performances, and key moments that defined the action.
Beginning with the standout team from week one, hoping to carry their momentum into week two, the Miners went on the road to Gladstone. Their defense played outstanding, getting multiple red zone stops and eventually earning a shutout. Evan Dellangelo added another two-touchdown performance this week, one from Kyle Waterman through the air and another with a punt return he took to the house. The Miners remain undefeated under the leadership of Jeff Niemi with a 25-2 win.
Next up, we head to Marquette for their home opener. The Sentinals are looking to get into the win column after falling short in week one with a hard-fought battle against Negaunee. The highlight of the weekend goes to Brody Clements, who caught a touchdown one-handed while falling out of bounds. The Sentinals would have no problems with Alpena, coming away with a 41-14 win in their home opener.
Finally, the Hematites would head up to play Forest Park. Prior to the matchup, the 1975 State Championship teams from both towns were honored, and a new trophy was unveiled for the teams to fight over. The trophy was rightly named after both championship head coaches, Mileski and Mettlach. Grady Gauthier carried it twenty-six times for 287 yards, with his biggest run being a 95-yard touchdown run. Forest Park claimed first ownership of the Mileski-Mettlach trophy with a 28-22 victory.
