Marquette, MI – April 14th, 2017 – The Marquette Redettes were lined up to take on the Gladstone Braves at the Superior Dome on a beautiful Friday evening. After Gladstone failed to get any hits in the top of the first, Hannah B. got the first hit of the year for Marquette on a quick single. Hannah was able to steal second base, and advanced to second after a trick bunt play from the Redettes. With the Redettes within scoring position, Marquette nailed a triple, scoring two RBIs. Those first hits started off a huge scoring run for the Redettes, and they were able to score a total of six runs before Hannah B. was back at the plate.
Gladstone was back at the plate, but the Marquette Redettes’ pitching was unstoppable. After only 1 & 1/3 innings, Marquette’s pitcher had three strikeouts. Chelsea Wiggins continued to light up the Dome. She struck-out the side, and had a total of five strikeouts in 1 & 1/2 innings. Wiggins’ unbelieveable domination of the Braves continued, and the Redettes carried their seven run lead into the top of the fourth inning. At the start of the bottom of the fifth inning, the Redettes continued to lead 8-0 over the Braves, and as the clock wound down, it looked like Marquette would take home the win.
