Marquette, Michigan – May 4th, 2017 – Cloudy skies gave way to Sunny skies on Thursday for Marquette Redette Softball as they took on the Negaunee Miners on Fox Sports Marquette! No score in the first two minutes of the game from Lions Field in Marquette Township. Ryan Ranguette and Luke Ghiardi were on deck on Thursday with this softball game. Originally a double-header, the second game was cancelled due to injuries on Thursday night.
No score at the bottom of the first ending. Samantha Carlson almost looked like she scored from the first base line from Lions Field. Meghan McEntire had two outs. It was a tough play for the Negaunee Miners. Two errors for Negaunee; Marquette Redettes lead the Negaunee Miners 3-0. First inning wraps up and the Redettes lead the Miners 4-0.
Top of the second inning the Marquette Redettes lead 4-0 over the Miners. Meghan McEntire was looking for a 1-2-3 inning in the second. 4-1 ballgame in the second inning as the Negaunee Miners get on the board. Bottom of the second inning the Redettes lead the Miners 4-1. Meghan McEntire had two RBI’s on the day.
Top of the third inning the Marquette Redettes lead the Negaunee Miners 5-1. All of a sudden it was a 5-3 ballgame at the top of the third. Negaunee suddenly got back in the game. 5-3 was the score at the top of the score at the top of the first inning. Samantha Carlson made it all the way to the base. 5-4 was the score at the bottom of the third inning. Negaunee scored three runs at the top of the third inning. Marquette leads 6-4 over the Negaunee Miners.
As the game moved into the fourth inning, the Redettes continued to hold onto the lead with a score of 7-4. Marquette’s bats were on fire, and the hits rolled in as they kept the pressure up. When the Miners took to the plate, they also found some success with their batting, and they had runners on first and second with one out.
The next time Marquette was at the plate, they started an unstoppable run, adding four runs to their total, putting some major separation between Negaunee and themselves. Quickly it was 12-4, and suddenly the game looked like it would be over due to the mercy rule. With the bases loaded, a sacrifice fly made the score 14-4 with one out.
