Senior Ellie Olsen got the last laugh with most of her conference peers, by claiming Gwinn’s first district title in nearly 20 seasons!
MARQUETTE, MI – 3/9/2015 – As both regular seasons have come to an end now, we’re in full playoff mode. Only two MPC teams remain in the playoffs, as Iron Mountain was able to take out Norway in triple overtime, and Gwinn’s momentum as the hosts knocked off, both Ishpeming and Negaunee in their own gym to claim their first district title in nearly 20 years!
On the boys’ side of things, the Negaunee Miners and Iron Mountain Mountaineers met on March 3rd for a de facto district title game. With the Miners’ win on Tuesday, they clinched a share of the MPC Title, and then avoided the let down by dismantling Gwinn 60-43 on Thursday to claim their fifth straight conference championship. Now it’s time for the playoffs, and with four teams finishing .500 or better in the conference (and Gwinn was just one game under), it should be a very competitive district week for all MPC teams involved! Let’s take a look:
