MHSAA Round Two Action!

The Negaunee Miners defeated the Charlevoix Rayder on Sunny.FM 10/31/14

The Negaunee Miners took care of business in Charlevoix on Friday night 21-12!

MARQUETTE, MI – 11/4/2014 – Christmas may get all of the attention, but this is the most wonderful time of the year.  The NBA & NHL are starting up, the NFL & NCAA are in full swing, and every game could be your last on the high school front.  Some teams and players saw their season and careers come to an end last Friday, while others lived to fight another week.  Fifteen U.P. teams entered the MHSAA playoffs across five divisions, and nine remain.  Here is a look at how the playoffs are shaping up!

ELIMINATED

  • Marquette Redmen
    • The Redmen were knocked off by Mount Pleasant handily, by the score of 40-14 last Friday Night
  • Westwood Patriots
    • The Patriots fell 34-0 in Ishpeming
  • Iron Mountain Mountaineers
    • The Mountaineers were also shut out, they fell in West Iron County 40-0
  • Gogebic Miners
    • The Miners fell by 20 to the Trojans of Forest Park
  • Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes
    • The Lakes were drowned by Bark River-Harris 14-6
  • Newberry Indians
    • The Indians ran into the #1 seed in their district, and it played out as expected

COMING UP THIS WEEK…

DIVISION-5

  • Calumet Copper Kings @ Menominee MaroonsNov. 7th @ 7pm
    • The Kings were able to knock off Harison 30-21 last Friday night and will now travel to Menominee to face a high-powered Maroon offense.  Menominee is coming into this game after dropping 69 points on the Gladwin Flying G’s last Friday night.  Whether the Copper King defense is up to stopping the Maroon attack remains to be seen.

DIVISION-6

  • Negaunee Miners @ Boyne City Ramblers – Nov. 7th @ 7pm
    • The Miners went into Charlevoix last Friday night and played with fire.  Ryan Bischoff carried the ball 25 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns.  This one is a rematch of the 2013 district championship that saw Negaunee eliminate a young Boyne City team by three scores.  10-0 Boyne City struggled out of the gate in last week’s contest, falling behind 14-0 to Elk Rapids, but ended the game on a 28-0 run to win.  You can catch this game on SunnyFM at 7pm this Friday!

Ishpeming Hematites defeated the Westwood Patriots 34-0 on Real Classic Rock 98.3 WRUP and WRUP.com

It was cold and snowy in Ishpeming, MI last Friday as the Hematites demolished the cross-town Patriots 34-0

DIVISION-7

  • West Iron County Wykons @ Ishpeming Hematites – Nov. 7th @ 7pm
    • Another 2013 district championship rematch as the undefeated Hematites welcome in the 9-1 Wykons once again.  These two teams knocked off their first round opponents by the combined score of 74-0.  With the Hematites knocking off the Wykons twice in the past three seasons, West Iron County is out for revenge.  You can catch all of this game’s action on 98.3WRUP this Friday Night at 7pm!

DIVISION-8

  • Bark River-Harris Broncos @ Crystal Falls-Forest Park Trojans – Nov. 7th @ 7pm
    • One team won with defense, the other with offense.  Bark River-Harris held Lake Linden to just six points in their round one contest, while the Trojans were able to drop 42 points on the Gogebic (Bessemer) Miners.  A classic match-up of a good defense vs. a good offense.  Will it be like Super Bowl 48?  Or will the offense rise up in this contest?
  • Munising Mustangs @ (St. Ignace) LaSalle Saints – Nov. 8th @ 1pm
    • Division-8 was really dominated by the Yoopers, as the regional championship will feature two Yooper teams regardless.  The Mustangs sent the (then 7-2) Indian River-Inland Lakes Bulldogs packing with a 54-0 beat down.  The undefeated Saints did the same to the Newberry Indians as they shut them out by the score of 35-0.  This one is going to be a Saturday game, and can be heard on AM1400 WQXO with Charlie Nebel, starting at 12:30pm!

High school football is winding down, but the excitement is revving up!  Be sure to follow along with those teams who can represent U.P. Power this post season right here on Fox Sports Marquette!  Good luck to all teams!
