Marquette, MI – August 5th, 2026 – This week on the Big Local Sports Show, we welcomed Traci Leonard, one of the assistant coaches for the Marquette Minors baseball team, along with two players who helped make this season a historic one, Ryder Leonard Rose and Brett Baker.
We kicked off the show with Coach Leonard, taking a behind-the-scenes look at a memorable season for the Marquette Minors. We discussed the work that goes into preparing for a new season, including when the offseason process begins and how the team gets ready to take the field. We also talked about the team’s fundraising efforts and some of the activities the players took part in away from the diamond during their trip downstate.
Coach Leonard then walked us through the Minors postseason run, including their district tournament championship and their trip to the state tournament. The team made history by winning a game at the state tournament for the first time in 30 years for their age group. We also got Coach Leonard’s perspective on what it was like coaching her son, along with some great behind-the-scenes stories and memories from throughout the season.
In the second segment, we heard directly from two of the players who helped make this historic run possible. We first caught up with Ryder Leonard Rose, who will return to the Minors next season as the team looks to make another run at the state tournament. Halfway through the segment, Brett Baker joined the conversation. Baker will move up to the next age group next season, giving us a chance to hear from both players about their experiences this year and what comes next.
We talked about the positions they play, the other sports they participate in, their favorite bats and gloves, and some of their favorite memories from the season. We also looked ahead to the future of the Marquette Minors and what the team hopes to accomplish as they build on a season that saw them make history at the state tournament.
