Marquette, MI – July 22nd, 2026 – This week’s episode of the Big Local Sports Show features former Ishpeming Hematites standout Darius Yohe, whose basketball journey has taken him from the Upper Peninsula to the professional ranks overseas.
After a successful high school career at Ishpeming, Yohe continued his basketball career at William Woods University before transferring to Emporia State University. Following the conclusion of his collegiate career, he made the leap to professional basketball, where he now competes overseas.
During our first segment, we look back at Yohe’s basketball journey before he reached the professional level. He reflects on growing up and playing alongside his brother, Dondre, how his recruiting process began, and why it was important for college coaches to build strong relationships with his family. Yohe also discusses the transition to the college game, the challenges that came with competing at a higher level, and how those experiences pushed him to elevate every aspect of his game.
In the second segment, we dive into the world of professional basketball overseas. If you don’t know much about international basketball, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss. Yohe explains how overseas basketball differs from the NBA, walks us through the agent process that many professional athletes experience, breaks down the different levels of leagues and how promotions and relegation work, and discusses some of the top countries to play in. He also gives listeners an inside look at what day-to-day life is like as a professional basketball player living and competing abroad.
