Marquette, MIJuly 16, 2020 – The Superiorland Soccer Association (SSA) could not prevent becoming a victim of the COVID-19 pandemic regardless of their strong efforts. Amy Niemi, SSA Board President, joined Luke Ghiardi to talk about the cancellation of summer activities and what is to come in the future.

The SSA was forced to cancel their summer recreational league as well as their summer program, despite their best efforts. “Once our board met; with all the plans set forth meeting and exceeding the guidelines, we all passionately felt that the health and safety of everyone and anyone that would be involved as well as everyone in the community…that it just wasn’t worth the risk” Niemi said.

The good news however, is that the SSA remains positive for the future.

“The mindset continues to be making improvements and planning and prepping our next adventures and our next event.” The SSA as of now still plans on holding their late fall and winter camps – which are indoors. “[We] just pray that we are able to continue with our program knowing that we will continue to follow the guidance of the health department, the government mandates, and MSYSA.”

If you want to get involved in the SSA, there are many ways to do so. This year is an election year with 2 board positions, treasurer and event director, open. They are also planning on hiring a recreation director. Find out more at the SSA webpage and Facebook page.
