Parent Night: Marquette Redmen Win Big Over Lakeland Union Thunderbirds 55-6
- Updated: October 6, 2017

Marquette, MI- October 6th, 2017- The Marquette Redmen were coming off another hard fought loss as was their opponent Lakeland Union (WI) Thunderbirds on Fox Sports Marquette. Marquette came into this game with a record of 2-4 with their playoff hopes slimming down with few games left to play. Lakeland Union’s playoff dreams were already cut as they were eliminated from contention with a 2-5 record. It was Parent Night for Marquette at the Superior Dome and they Redmen were ready for a breakout game.
Right from the opening drive the Redmen were ready to put on a show for their parents with a prime time game in the dome. They scored quickly on the first drive in five plays. Andrew Gale would touch the ball four of the five plays and score the touchdown. The second drive for Marquette would be very entertaining. They converted two fourth down plays with fake punts. One a running play and the other a pass. After the second fake punt conversion, the Redmen would run a flea flicker for a 22 yard touchdown. The very next drive for the Thunderbirds would result in a recovered fumble on their own twenty. Marquette would convert that into another touchdown and the rout was on.
It was fun for the Redmen to finally put a complete game on showcase. Especially on such a big night with it being Parent Night. The game would go to a running clock right before halftime and never stop. The starters would play one series in the second half before we got our first look at the future of Redmen football. Andrew Gale had a big night surpassing the 1,000 yard mark and scoring 5 total touchdowns in the game. Ethan Martysz got to show off his break away speed as Brendan Kaski hit him in stride for a 71 yard touchdown. Lakeland Union got their lone score late in the first half. Back up Isaac Johnson ran a 40 yard score in the fourth quarter. It was nice to see that after Gale you still have plenty of talent. Marquette would win big 55-6.
Marquette looks to keep their playoff hopes alive against cross-town rival the Negaunee Miners. Negaunee is coming off their fourth straight victory. It will not be an easy game but the Redmen will be confident now after this big victory. That game will kickoff at 7 with coverage starting at 6:30 on Fox Sports Marquette.
