Marquette, MI- December 9th, 2017- The Marquette Redmen hockey team earned a victory against the Warren De La Salle Pilots 3-2 in overtime on 97.5 GTO. It was rematch for the Redmen and the Pilots from the day before. Marquette fell to Warren De La Salle 3-0 in a physical game. That was the Redmen’s second loss of the season and it brought the Pilots to .500 on the year. Marquette was looking for revenge against Warren considering their game yesterday was much closer than the scored would indicate. They were very evenly matched the only difference is the Redmen couldn’t find the back of the net.

The first period was much different than it was for yesterday’s game. Marquette played a lot cleaner, a lot more disciplined than the first match up. Yesterday, the Redmen took three penalties in the first period, none today. Coach Doug Garrow said after the game on the 8th, that his team needed to take a lot of shots to win games. That is exactly what his team did, Marquette peppered the Pilots in the first period. The only thing that was the same as yesterday’s game is Warren De La Salle was able to draw first blood, and take a 1-0 lead heading into the first period.

It was a tough second period for the Redmen. This game became very physical, Warren De La Salle has a very players that are very good at using the body. Good news for Marquette, it gave them a few powerplay chances. The problem is the Redmen still struggled on the powerplay and could not find the back of the net on any of them. Over the last two games that made Marquette 0-11 on the man advantage. The Pilots coming in to town were above 90% on the penalty kill and they proved why this weekend. Warren De La Salle after two periods still led 1-0.

It was a wild 3rd period for the Redmen as they were finally able to find the back of the net. Doucette tallied the first Marquette goal after a lose puck scramble in front of the net that was batted into the net.  Warren De La Salle scored shortly after on a stretch pass from a player out of the penalty box and sloppy defense from the Redmen. One more goal from the Redmen’s Lasard tied the game at 2-2, his second in as many days. That last power play goal was a much needed boost for Marquette who had been 0-14 before they finally broke that tally. The game would go into overtime before Marquette scored in the first moments of overtime to seal a hard fought victory for the Redmen 3-2.

The Marquette Redmen hockey team is back in action Tuesday as they travel to take on Calumet. That game can be heard on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and 99.9. Coverage will begin around 7 PM.
