Negaunee Miners Softball Team Defeats The Ishpeming Hematites 8-3 In Game 2 Of Double Header
- Updated: May 10, 2017

Negaunee, MI- May 10th, 2017- The Negaunee Miners softball team defeated the Ishpeming Hematites 9-4 in the first game of their double header. They were looking for the two game sweep in game two but knew it would not be easy against their cross-town rival. The Hematites wanted revenge and the Miners would need their best effort.
It would be a great start for Negaunee, they would shut out Ishpeming while getting themselves to runs to grab themselves a quick 2-0 lead. Both teams would go scoreless in the second inning. There was some brilliant pitching and great defensive plays made on both sides to shut the teams out. It was another scoreless inning for both teams as the pitchers would put the batters down in order 1,2,3.
Not only would the Hematites get themselves on the board, but they would have themselves a big inning in the top of the fourth. They would get three runners across home plate and take their first lead of the night 3-2. Negaunee would really respond in the bottom half of the inning batting around the line up and driving in five runs to re-gain the lead at 7-3. It would be a stressful top half of an inning for the Miners. Luckily for them they would be able to buckle down and get out of trouble with no damage done. Negaunee would threaten in the bottom of the fifth but wouldn’t convert as this game would stay 7-3 heading into the sixth. After shutting out the Hematites in the top of the sixth inning, the Miners would get themselves an insurance run to make it 8-3 heading into the final inning. Negaunee would complete the sweep of the Hematites after Ishpeming was unable to drive in any of their base runners in top of the seventh inning. Negaunee wins game two 8-3.
