Marquette Redmen Basketball Team Defeats Gladstone Braves 54-47 On Senior Night
- Updated: February 22, 2017

Marquette, MI- February 22, 2017- You could not have asked for a better match up for senior night as the #1 Marquette Redmen took on the #5 Gladstone Braves. It was these two teams who had a double overtime thriller earlier in the season and this game would not disappoint if you were looking for another exciting game.
It was not the start the Redmen were hoping for as they had to take on the same team they were able to get a double overtime victory against in Gladstone. Marquette would fall behind right from the start and were unable to get much going against the Braves. Every time the Redmen were able to get themselves close Gladstone would go on a run. The Braves led going into the second 22-13.
The second quarter was much better for Marquette as they were able to claw themselves back into this game. The defense really stood out as the Redmen held Gladstone to 5 points in the frame, compared to the 22 they were able to get in the first. The offense for Marquette was able to add another 13 points to their total as they would cut the Brave’s lead down to one heading into halftime, 27-26.
The Redmen kept the momentum going in third quarter as they were able to take their first lead of the game early in the frame. It wasn’t easy keeping it though as they lead would change two more times. Marquette wouldn’t be able to hold the Braves to single digits this time as Gladstone was able to put up 12 in the quarter. Fortunately the Redmen added 17 in the frame and took a 43-39 lead heading into the fourth.
Things would stay tight for the entire fourth quarter as both teams really wanted this one. The Redmen were on a 16 game win streak and were trying to go undefeated in the conference where as the Braves wanted to avenge the double overtime loss they suffered at home to Marquette. The Redmen were able to walk away with a 54-47 victory as they sunk clutch free throws coming down the stretch.
