Marquette Led State in Total MHSAA Team Championships in 2019-2020
- Updated: June 26, 2020

Marquette, MI – June 26, 2020 – The 2019-2020 athletic year didn’t end the way anyone had hoped. The MHSAA announced the suspension of MHSAA winter tournaments on the day the Marquette Redmen hockey team was playing in a state semifinal, and the day before the Marquette Redmen basketball team would play for a district championship.
The winter tournaments would never resume, and spring sports in around the state would never begin. But through it all, Marquette Senior High School athletics can still be proud of a very accomplished year.
According to the MHSAA, they crowned 69 team champions in the 2019-2020 athletic year. Of those 69 championships, 58 schools at least claimed at least one title.
But only one school gets to claim they won the most team championships in the state – Marquette. According to the MHSAA, Marquette totaled 7 team championships, winning their division in girls and boys skiing, girls and boys swimming & diving, girls and boys cross country, and girls tennis.
The next closest school was Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern with 3 team championships. Marquette and GRFHN were the only two schools with at least 3 championships, respectively.
