Marquette, MIJune 25, 2020 – 2020 has seen many traditional events cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But for the 3rd consecutive year in Gwinn there will be one constant – the alumni softball tournament.

Alex Baysore and Danny Hurrell, two of the tournament’s organizers, joined Luke Ghiardi to discuss the upcoming event and what is being done to help insure safety of players and spectators.

Baysore and Hurrell discussed different sanitation protocols including hand sanitizer stations for wiping down bats and balls as well as recommended safety measures such as staying 6 feet apart and not sharing coolers. The two mentioned that they are putting the faith in the people attending to be smart and adhere by the simple safety guidelines.

Gwinn launched their inaugural alumni tournament three years ago and it has grown ever since. Even amongst the pandemic, Gwinn will have their most ever classes participating with 30. They have also seen sponsorships and community support grow for the event every year.

The tournament officially kicks off Saturday night with the Class of 2020 taking on the Class of 2019 with live music to follow from “Shotgun Kelli.” There will be a kickoff party Friday night with live music from “Reverend.”
