This game started with some fireworks and big plays. The Redmen would grab the first lead of the game. Ethan Martyz would kick a 42-yard field goal after Marquette recovered a Menominee fumble. The lead would change two more times before the half. The Maroons would score the first touchdown of the game but miss the extra point. The Redmen would go on to score 14 unanswered points with some big passing plays. They would suffer a significant loss in the process, losing star running back Andrew Gale for the rest of the game. Menominee would actually answer Marquette’s 14 point run with one of their own to end the first half and take a 20-17 lead.
You could tell both these teams were fighting for their playoff lives with big play after big play. But the second half would be a different story. It would be all Menominee. The Maroons would add another 14 points without an answer from the Redmen. It all started so well for Marquette but simply couldn’t keep up with Menominee down the stretch. They would fall 34-17 to end their season.
It was a great night for Redmen football, the pregame, halftime, and post game festivities for Senior Night were excellent. It is too bad the night resulted in a season’s end. But there was some positives to take away. This was a Marquette team with a lot of youth that gained valuable experience. This was a Redmen team that showed much improvement from the past two years. There is a lot to build on and a lot of important pieces that will return next year. The Seniors that won’t be back will have left behind a foundation of toughness and resiliency. This was a good season for Marquette’s players and the entire staff. You can see the full season’s schedule here. Tune into Fox Sports Marquette for Redmen and Reddette basketball coming soon. Don’t forget about Redmen hockey as well!
