Marquette, MI – December 23rd, 2025 – Northern Michigan University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams are off to fantastic start to the season. Both squads sit at 11–1 heading into conference play, which begins in just a few days.
Women’s Basketball
The NMU women have jumped out to an incredible start and have earned a No. 14 national ranking. The Wildcats opened the season 6–0, highlighted by strong performances at the CCA Tip-Off Classic and during a weekend trip to Wisconsin Dells. Their lone loss came against Minnesota Duluth, an 85–70 setback.
Since that defeat, the Wildcats have bounced back in impressive fashion, winning five straight games. They return to the court next Thursday at 5:30 p.m., hosting Davenport to open conference play. Guard Jacy Weisbrod was named GLIAC Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 33 points in the Wildcats’ most recent win over Northwood.
Men’s Basketball
The NMU men’s team has matched the success of the women’s program, also posting an 11–1 record. The Wildcats opened the season with back-to-back weekend trips to the Dells, suffering their only loss during that stretch, an 80–67 defeat to Missouri–St. Louis.
Since then, NMU has been on a tear, putting together a 10-game winning streak. That run includes a dominant trip to Puerto Rico, where the Wildcats defeated Interamericana, UPR Rio Piedras, and UPR Bayamón by a combined 120 points. The men return home next Thursday, hosting Davenport immediately following the women’s game.
