Negaunee kicked off the ball for the tonight to the receiving Marquette Redmen. The Marquette Redmen dominated the first quarter of the game and after a 10 minute drive and a score of 3-0 against the Negaunee Miners the first quarter ended.
The Negaunee Miners had possession to start the second quarter, but were unable to complete their first drive against the Marquette Redmen. The Miners punt return was a high snap which put the Redmen in great field position. Kyle Lane and the rest of the team took advantage and scored a touchdown and the extra point to widen their lead against the Miners 10-0. The Marquette Redmen continued their domination over Negaunee when the Redmen to scored another touchdown and the extra point to trail 17-0. The Negaunee Miners had a great drive at the end of the quarter and scored a touchdown to trail 7-17 against the Marquette Redmen.
The Negaunee Miners received the ball to start the third quarter of play marching down the field nicely and scored a touchdown with a completed 2 point conversion to trail 15-17 against the Marquette Redmen. The Negaunee Miners defense was next up and stopped the Marquette Redmen’s first drive of the third quarter, to keep the score 17-15 in Marquette’s favors.
Negaunee started the fourth quarter with a 50 yard run to score a touchdown to give the Miners a 22-17 lead and after the 2 point conversion led the Redmen 23-17. The Negaunee Miners defense was strong in the fourth quarter, but the Marquette Redmen scored a touchdown late in the fourth and with the extra point regained the lead 24-23. It was a close finish, with the Marquette Redmen pulling out the win against the Negaunee Miners 24-23.
