
Starting the first inning off, the Westwood Patriots were at the plate, and thanks to a walk, the Patriots had the first base-runner of the game. The Marquette Redettes‘ pitcher was having hard time finding the strike zone early, but she calmed down as the first inning advanced. Jillian Koski drove home the first run of the game on a nice single for the Patriots, then she was able to advance to second on a past ball. With only one out, Westwood was able to drive in two more runs and give themselves a 3-0 lead. Westwood kept on hammering the Redettes, and they led 8-0 at the bottom of the first inning. Marquette got onto the scoreboard just a few batters after starting their turn, and they hoped to close the score gap down. Alexis Tromley nailed in an RBI double, keeping the scoring up for the Redettes. At the end of the first inning, The Patriots led 8-0.

In stark contrast to the top of the first inning, the Marquette Redettes were able to get two quick outs to start the second. After another run for Westwood, Marquette was able to put away the third out of the inning and take their turn at bat. It was a very fast three up and three down for the Redettes at the plate, and at the end of the second, the Patriots led 9-2. As the game progressed to the third inning, Westwood quickly tacked on another run to their total, making it 10-2. The Patriots seemed unstoppable and made the score 12-2 with two outs in the third. The bases were full with two outs and Westwood at the plate and Marquette needed something big from their defense. A walk from the Redettes’ pitcher kept the tension high, but the pitcher was able to expertly strike out the last batter.

When it was the Marquette Redettes turn to bat, they brought the score to 12-3 but were unable to close the scoring gap any further before handing the plate off to the Patriots. At the top of the fourth, Westwood led heartily, and they tacked on an additional run early in the inning. The Redettes got their defense together and shut down Westwood for the rest of their turn at bat. In an unusual situation, the game was called after the top of the fourth inning due to a 75-minute time limit, making the final 13-3.
