Redmen Lose Great Northern Conference Match-Up Against Kingsford
- Updated: May 17, 2021
Marquette, MI – May 17, 2021 – The Marquette Redmen varsity baseball team played the visiting Kingsford Flivvers on Monday. This was a Great Northern Conference match-up. The game was broadcast live on 97.5 GTO.

Redmen At-Bat
This game was very much a defensive battle between the two teams. Kingsford allowed five stolen bases, while the Redmen allowed six. Errors were also a contributor for the Redmen’s loss Monday.
Scoring started with Kingsford in the top of the third inning. After being walked to first, Flivver Nathan Bousley stole second base off an error. He was hit in by a RBI single by Dennis Neuens. Neuens stole second base to put himself in scoring position. He was knocked in by a Nolan LaVarnway single. LaVarnway followed suit and stole second base. Carter Kreski would get on base off an error which also scored LaVarnway from second. The Flivvers led, 3-0.
Marquette would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Erik Johnson would help his cause by getting a stand-up triple to lead off the inning. He was hit home by his catcher, Brady Wright. Marquette trailed, 3-1.

Flivver At-Bat
To start the fifth, Marquette would make a pitching change by swapping their catcher and pitcher. Johnson would now be catching Wright.
Wright would start it off by walking the lead-off batter, Bousley who would steal second. Neuens would get his second RBI of the afternoon by hitting in Bousley and scoring himself a double.
Marquette would try and rally in the sixth inning. Wright would start out by hitting a single, and then stealing his way to third base. Jacob Knauss would hit him in with a sacrifice RBI. The Redmen would end their half by plating one run and closing the gap, 4-2 in favor of Kingsford.
The Flivvers wouldn’t be able to add any insurance runs to their tally, but they also didn’t give up any extra runs to the Redmen in the final inning of the game.
