The Flivvers struck first in a snappy first quarter. The Redmen answered quickly to jump out to 4-2 over Kingsford. Kingsford knotted it up at 4-4, and then followed up with a 6-0 run to improve to 10-6 over the Redmen.
Marquette answered with their own 4-0 run to tie it up at 10-10. The Flivvers were able to battle back out front at 17-12 going into the second quarter as the Redmen stumble a bit early in the game.
The Redmen brought out their bench to see if a lineup change might inject some life into their game. A change of pace did just that as Marquette’s Isaac Johnson started out the second quarter with a triple to cut the Flivver lead to two at 17-15. The Redmen battled against the Flivvers to move back out front at 19-17 before Kingsford tied it back up at 19.
A Ty Lotterman triple followed by a Lincoln Sager triple helped give the Redmen their largest lead of the night thus far at 29-22 as Marquette was able to bounce back with a 21-point quarter, vs a 7-point quarter for Kingsford. Sager secured an and one opportunity just before the buzzer to put the score at 33-24 going into the half.
The Redmen huddle up ahead of the game.The third quarter started out with the biggest lead for the Redmen at 10 points. The Flivvers tried to cut that lead, but instead Marquette jumped out to a 12-point lead for the first time in the game. Kingsford felt the pressure as the Redmen really found their rhythm.
Lincoln Sager came up with a bucket to put him at 19 points for the game thus far. He followed up with a huge block to set it up for a Kam Karp double to give the Redmen a 17-point lead with just a few minutes to go in the quarter. A Robert Apple triple before the buzzer wrapped up the quarter as the Redmen carried a 58-39 lead into the final period of play.
The Redmen continued their punishing pace against the Flivvers, jumping out to a 20-point lead in the early moments of the fourth quarter. The onslaught continued throughout. Another Apple triple with just twenty seconds left put an exclamation point on the 75-51 Redmen victory.
