Redettes Basketball Leaves Eskymos Out in the Cold with a 64-36 Victory

Marquette, MI – January 8, 2018 – The Marquette Redettes Basketball team remains undefeated in the Great Northern Conference after a 64-36 victory on the road over the Escanaba Eskymos tonight on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.
The Redettes were well in command in a fast-paced first quarter. Marquette started with an early 6-0 run against the Eskymos.
An Avery Ledy triple improved the Redettes to 15-5 at the bottom of the first period.
Sofia van den Ende sunk a two-pointer to round out theRedettes’ score to 17-5 at the end of the quarter. Escanaba improved to eight for a score of 17-8 at the buzzer.
The Eskymos came out strong in the second quarter with a 6-0 run and got within two points of the Redettes. Marquette hung on to the lead, but improved to only 19 from 17 several minutes into the period.
Another Avery Ledy triple extended the Marquette lead to 7 points at 24-17 and turned the tides back in favor of the Redettes.
Aspen Michelin went 2-for-2 at the free-throw line to give the Redettes a 10-point lead going into the half at 29-19 over the Eskymos.
Sydney Kivi was on fire this evening, responsible for a blistering 13 points by the end of the first half.
Ledy wasn’t far behind Kivi’s 13 points with 11 of her own in the first half of play.
The Redettes turned up for the third period and improved to 45-27 at the buzzer. Marquette’s defense continued to prove nearly impenetrable for Escanaba.
The final quarter started with a 6-0 run for the Redettes.
A Rachael Hunt three-pointer with 90 seconds to go improved Marquette to 60-35 over the Eskymos.
It was a solid 64-36 victory for Marquette; tonight’s victory marks the Redettes’ 14th consecutive win over the Eskymos.
The Redettes will be at Calumet on Friday, January 11th on 97.5 GTO. Pregame is at 6:45 pm, tip off is at 7:15 pm.
