Action got off to a quick start for the Marquette Redmen as they put the first shot-on-goal of the game up against the Flivvers’ goalie just seconds into the first. Marquette seemed to control most of the offense early in the game, but they were unable to capitalize on any chances they generated. Five minutes into the game it was still scoreless, but the Redmen were spending a lot of time in Kingsford’s zone. The Flivvers were called for the first penalty of the game with a hooking call, but Marquette couldn’t put the puck into the net, despite being a man up. Time was winding down in the first, and it seemed like it was only a matter of time before Marquette would put the puck into the net. Marquette was called for the second penalty of the game, and despite being short-handed, the Redmen put several great shots onto the net.

Even though the Marquette Redmen had to start the second period a man down, they successfully killed that penalty and returned to even strength. Marquette hit the goalpost three separate times in the game, and it seemed as though luck was the only thing keeping the puck out of the net for Kingsford. Tyler Bergwall was living up to the “wall” part of his name, and he had multiple leg pad saves on several tough shots. Finally, the Redmen netted the puck for the first goal of the game off of a great shot from Gaetanno Cammarata with three minute left in the period. Soon after, Phillips put up the second goal of the game for the Redmen off of a loose rebound. As the buzzer for the second period sounded, a penalty was called, but both teams would have to wait until the start of the third to see who it was on.

On his birthday of all days, Ansel Frost scored the third goal for the Marquette Redmen, his tenth goal of the year. Tanner Phillips scored his second goal of the game just under five minutes into the third period, and the Flivvers appeared very tired on the ice. The puck continued to find the back of the net for the Redmen, and birthday boy Frost put his second goal of the game into the net on a laser beam of a shot from the circles. Kingsford went on their third power play of the game after the Redmen were called for two separate misconduct penalties at the same time, resulting in a 5 on 3 for the Flivers for two whole minutes. On a backhand, top-shelf shot on clear breakaway, Tanner Phillips scored the Redmen’s sixth goal of the game with under three minutes to play for a hat-trick in the game! In the net, Tyler Bergwall got his sixth shutout of the season, and as time ran out on the clock, the Marquette Redmen went into the locker rooms happy and looking ahead to more playoff action.
