Marquette Redmen Leave Copper Country With Win VS Hancock Bulldogs, 5-1
- Updated: December 13, 2022

Hancock, MI – December 13, 2022 – The Marquette Redmen (6-2-1) hit the road on Tuesday up to the copper country to face the Hancock Bulldogs (3-3) in a conference match-up. John Thomsen and Joe Gaffney were live with the call from The Houghton County Arena on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 – 99.9!

Center Ice
1st: The Redmen wound up shorthanded in the early minutes of the first. Hancock was unable to cash in on the man advantage. Marquette found the back of the net a few minutes later after flopping in the crease. The goal was scored by Caleb Fries assisted by Tony DeMattia and Jace Moore. The Redmen looked to add on another as they pressed into the Bulldog zone. Hancock did a good job of redirecting the puck and moving Marquette out of the zone.
CJ Carter would tack on another goal after he displayed great stick handling and going top shelf for the score. Marquette would then find themselves shorthanded yet again in the period. Hancock struggled to keep the puck in their offensive zone as Marquette cleared the puck effectively. As the Redmen returned to full strength they took to the offensive by continuing to shoot the puck relentlessly. It would be Hancock who would score next with a goal from Bennett Sturos in the final two minutes of play.

2nd: The period opened up with almost an identical pace as the first as each team went back and forth to start. Marquette had a solid opportunity at a goal streaking in front of the net but would fail to find it’s mark. As the Redmen cycled the puck around, Nash Riipi would bury it past the goaltender for another Marquette goal assisted by Jake Garrow.
Both of the teams would battle up and down the ice and register shots on net with none going in. Marquette yet again found a player in the box, but the Redmen were able to kill their third penalty of the evening. Looking to add on before the end of the period, Marquette swarmed the zone and continued to shoot. Caleb Fries had a great shot on net but Dan Wroblewski made the save for the Bulldogs as the period came to an end.
Marquette 3 – Hancock 1
3rd: Hancock came out with more physical play in the third. Marquette wouldn’t be rattled as they continued to press and keep things in Hancock’s zone. The Bulldogs would eventually move things down to the other end with a shot being saved and covered by Parker Nevenhoven. As play continued both teams fought for control going back and forth and moving fast. Marquette looked to move the puck in front of the net and would finally do so. Ethan Phillips would get his third goal of the year to put the Redmen up by three goals.
The Redmen had a 2-on-1 advantage with Dylan English and Owen Potulny but Wroblewski made a fantastic save to keep the score at 4-1 in favor of Marquette. Hancock couldn’t keep Marquette out for long though as they were able to tally another goal. This time from Caleb Beerman for his first career goal with Marquette. The Bulldogs looked to cover some ground, but were unable to keep the puck in the Marquette zone. The Redmen would skate out the clock and leave the HoCo with a win.
