Marquette Redmen Hockey Shut Out 3-0 By Houghton Gremlins
- Updated: November 22, 2022

Marquette, MI – November 22, 2022 – The Marquette Redmen hockey team fell to 1-2 on the season on Tuesday evening with a 3-0 loss to the Houghton Gremlins. Marquette, playing in their first home game of the year, were outplayed by the #4 team in the state at Lakeview Arena.
It was an even opening few minutes, with both teams generating quality scoring chances, but goaltenders Cole Kelly of Marquette and Bryant Lee of Houghton stood tall and kept the puck out of their respective nets. It didn’t take long for the Gremlins to turn up the pressure, and after a barrage of shots on goal, they finally broke the ice with a goal be Landon Stevens at the 15:18 mark of the period to make the score 1-0.
End 1: Houghton 1, Marquette 0

Marquette fell to Houghton 3-0
Houghton began the second period with the same intensity and pressure that they ended the first with, and after a Marquette delay of game penalty, Mikey Maillette capitalized on the man advantage and doubled the lead for the Gremlins. The Redmen responded with a few scoring opportunities of their own, but a combination of near misses and solid goaltending held Marquette off the scoreboard.
End 2: Houghton 2, Marquette 0
It was more of the same for Marquette in the third period, with Houghton playing solid hockey and the Redmen struggling to put any meaningful pressure on the Gremlins. Landon Stevens scored his second goal of the game at the 9:28 mark to put Houghton ahead 3-0, and from there, the game was never in doubt. Houghton controlled the puck well, gave up very few chances to Marquette, and skated out of Lakeview Arena with a 3-0 shutout victory.
The Marquette Redmen will next take the ice on Tuesday, November 29th, when they travel to Escanaba to face the Eskymos. The puck drops at 6:30, and John Thomson and Joe Gaffney will have all the action on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and 99.9 and online at foxsportsmarquette.com.
