Chelsea, MI – January 27, 2023 – The Marquette Redmen hockey team participated in the Chelsea Showcase on Friday afternoon. They were matched up against the White Lake Lakeland Eagles. The game was broadcast live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 – 99.9 with John Thomsen and Joe Gaffney on the call.
Marquette would find the back of the net first with Ian Sheltrow sneaking one past the Eagle goalie assisted by Nash Riipi and Jake Garrow. A physical first period saw a lot of heavy hits delivered mostly from the Marquette Redmen. Marquette had great shooting lanes but had trouble connecting the passes. The Eagles matched the Redmen with shots on net, but it was Marquette that held the goal advantage after the first.

Marquette continued to get quality looks as the second period ticked away. White Lake was able to press into the Marquette zone and get shots off for themselves, but couldn’t make it past Parker Nevenhoven. Nash Riipi would bury a quick one just past the post assisted from CJ Carter and Jake Garrow for the line goal from the Redmen. Marquette added on to their lead with a goal from Rylan Ragusett for his second of the year. White Lake struggled to keep Marquette out of their zone as the Redmen put another goal in net from Brock Taylor assisted from Caleb Beerman and Riipi. The second period ended with the Redmen holding a four goal lead over the scoreless Eagles.
With only :14 seconds into the third period the White Lake Eagles were able to bury one in the net to avoid the shutout. The White Lake defense did a good job smothering the Marquette offense in the early minutes of the period. The Redmen would get their chances but couldn’t find their mark on the shots. The two teams continued to battle back and forth with no scoring as time expired.
FINAL: Marquette 4 – White Lake Lakeland 1
