Oak Park, MI – November 18, 2022 – The Marquette Senior High hockey team took to the ice tonight for their opening game of the season. They faced a familiar foe in the Brother Rice Warriors. John Thomson and Joe Gaffney were on the call live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9!

The first period was very much the two teams feeling each other out. Marquette had a power play opportunity, but came up empty handed. They went back and forth with shot attempts for both teams. Senior Jack Schwartz got the first goal of the night for Brother Rice to give them the early lead at 15:58.

Brother Rice 1 (8 SOG) – Marquette 0 (6 SOG)

Marquette evened things up with Brock Taylor finding the back of the net with the assist from Owen Potulny at 2:15 in the second. The Redmen looked to stay on the gas and continued to pepper the goaltender. Brother Rice’s goaltender did his best to fight away the Redmen offensive flurry, and keep the game tied. The Warriors brought the game back into the Marquette zone, and were able to score to give them a one goal lead. Marquette got caught on their heels and Brother Rice took advantage by putting another score on the board. The Redmen answered back immediately with a goal from Tucker Welch from Ethan Phillips and Rylin Ragusett to bring the score to, 3-2.

The game got a lot more physical with big hits going around for both teams. The Redmen looked to tie things up yet again, but Brother Rice was able to make a glove save on a 1-on-1. Marquette couldn’t get things tied up before the end of the period.

Brother Rice 3 (8 SOG) – Marquette 2 (16 SOG)

The Warriors doubled up the Redmen with a glove side goal from Peter Rosa AT 3:10 of the third period. Marquette ended up staying on the defensive and had outstanding play from sophomore goalie, Cole Kelly. Joe DeMattia was able to block a couple shots himself in the Redmen defensive zone to fend of Brother Rice. Marquette got their first penalty of the game and put the Warriors on a power play. The Redmen were able to kill the penalty and bring things back to full strength.

Things stayed even through the remainder of the game, and the Warriors would leave the ice as the victors.
