Marquette Hockey Falls Short In Season Opener Vs Brother Rice, 5-1

Oak Park, MI November 17, 2023The Marquette Senior High School hockey team laced up the skates for the first regular season game against Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice. This kicks off their slate of games below the bridge as tomorrow they face off against Lake Orion. John Thomsen and Joe Gaffney were live from Oak Park Ice Arena with the action on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9!

1st Period: Senior skater Nash Riipi buried one in the net in the first minute of play for Marquette. Marquette was able to keep the pressure on and keep the puck in the Warrior zone. Brother Rice began to move the puck, but Marquette turned up the physicality and were able to thwart the Warrior’s offensive attempts. The Warriors however found a hole in the Marquette defense to even up the score.

2nd Period: The Warriors started to break away in the second as the pressed into the Marquette zone. Marquette was unable to keep up with the physicality and speed of the Warriors. Marquette goalie Cole Kelly was able to make two big saves, but Bloomfield Hills registered another goal to take a one score lead.

3rd Period: Marquette found themselves continuing to battle back against a strong Warrior squad. The Warriors made the most of their power play opportunities able to slip a couple scores past Marquette. The Marquette hockey squad struggled to find their footing and generate offense. The Warriors were able to put in an insurance goal and skate off with the comfortable win.

The Marquette Senior High School hockey team is back in action tomorrow afternoon as they face off against Lake Orion and Oak Park Ice Arena. The Elder Agency Pregame show will start at 12:30pm with John Thomsen and Joe Gaffney on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9!
