Both teams brought high energy to the first period, though the opening minutes remained scoreless. Gaetano Cammarata scored during a Redmen power play with about seven minutes to go. The goal was waved off, however, when the officials determined the puck was directed by Cammarata’s skate.
The Redmen remained dominant throughout the period. They had 17 shots on goal to Kingsford’s 4. It looked like the score would remain 0-0 going into the second period, but Evan Kroll found the back of the net with two minutes to go. The goal, assisted by Lucas Guertin and Dylan Baldwin, gave the Redmen the 1-0 lead going into the second period.
Things moved quickly as a Cammarata goal opened the second period to widen the Redmen lead to 2-0 early, Guertin and Jacob Peterson assisted. Owen Riipi, with help from Cammarata and Ansel Frost, turned around and scored the first even-strength goal for Marquette to make it 3-0.

Brennan Hakkola snagged a massive save late in the period to protect the Redmen lead, but there was still time for Kingsford to get on the board. They did just that as a Hunter Fortner goal for the Flivvers put the score at 3-1.
Cammarata answered right back with a quick goal, helped by Guertin and Ethan Phillips. The puck found the back of the net just before the buzzer to give the Redmen a 4-1 lead going into the final period.
The Redmen wasted no time in the opening minute of the third period. Evan Kroll found the back of the net, with help from Baldwin and Jacob Garrow, to go 5-1 over the Flivvers.
A Ryan Baldwin goal put the score at 6-1 late in the period. He had help from Owen Riipi. Cole Ranta followed up with a goal, assisted by Jacob Peterson and Cooper Anderson, to put the Redmen at 7-1 as the game came to a close. The Flivvers were no match for the Redmen tonight. Their 7-1 victory keeps Marquette in the fold for high school hockey playoff season.
The Redmen will be back in action on Wednesday, March 4th against the Escanaba Eskymos. Visit the Fox Sports Marquette website for updates on the Redmen Hockey playoff schedule.
