Houghton, MI – December 10, 2024 – The Marquette High School Hockey team continues to push through the season with determination, but tonight’s matchup against the Hancock Bulldogs proved to be a challenging battle. Broadcasting live from the Houghton County Arena, Joe Gaffaney and Larry Carey delivered all the play-by-play action on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9, keeping fans at the edge of their seats.
First Period:
The Sentinels started strong with Jack Pond scoring the first goal of the game. However, Hancock quickly responded with a goal of their own, equalizing the score within a minute. Both teams showed solid defense and offensive attempts, but the remainder of the period ended in a deadlock.
Score: Marquette 1 – 1 Hancock
Second Period:
Marquette’s goalie, Cole Kelly, showed incredible skill, stopping multiple tough shots from Hancock. However, a rebound off a Sentinel player’s skate resulted in a goal for the Bulldogs, giving them a one-goal lead. Marquette’s offense struggled to break through Hancock’s goalie, and before the period ended, Jax Pierner of the Bulldogs scored another goal, extending their lead.
Score: Marquette 1 – 3 Hancock
Third Period:
The final period saw a relentless effort from both teams, but Hancock’s Jax Pierner continued his streak, adding two more goals to the Bulldogs’ tally. With another goal from Hancock’s Jax Pierner, the Bulldogs secured a commanding lead. Despite Marquette’s persistent offensive attempts in the final minutes, they couldn’t overcome Hancock’s formidable defense.
Final Score: Marquette 1 – 6 Hancock
