Marquette, MI – December 15, 2023 – Tonight, the excitement reached a fever pitch as the Marquette High School Hockey Team faced off against the Manistique Emeralds on their home turf at the Lake View Arena. Announcers Joe Gaffney and Coach Larry Karry brought the electrifying action to life on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9, delivering live updates straight from the heart of the game.
First Period:
Manistique initially had Marquette bottled up, but a tripping penalty right in front of Marquette’s bench handed Marquette a power-play opportunity. Beerman seized the moment, scoring the opening goal and setting the tone at 1-0. Brody Sheldon redirected the puck for another quick goal, bringing the score to 2-0. Marquette emerged as a powerhouse in the first period, extending their lead to 3-0. The onslaught continued with another goal, showcasing the best structure seen all season, and Marquette led 4-0.
Second Period:
The second period kicked off with a beautiful short-handed goal by Caleb Freeze, expanding the lead to 5-0. Maurier added to the spectacle with a top-shelf goal, making it 6-0. Caleb Genoski contributed his first goal of the season, a power-play goal, bringing the score to an impressive 7-0. Although Marquette came close to a mercy goal, they were unable to find the net again in this period.
Third Period:
As the game progressed into the third period, Marquette faced some challenges, becoming a bit sloppy in their attempts to break Manistique’s goalie. However, Manistique was equally unable to overcome Marquette’s strong defense. Despite the challenges, Marquette managed to score, securing a mercy goal victory and extending their winning streak to eight games with an 8-0 triumph.
