Marquette, MIFebruary 16, 2024 – In a pivotal game for Marquette High School Hockey, the team faced off against the Houghton Gremlins on their home turf at the Lake View Arena. The stakes were high as a victory would mean a shared Hockey League Championship title with Houghton. This game marked the culmination of the regular season before playoffs kick off next week. Announcers Joe Gaffney and Larry Carey provided the play-by-play coverage from the stadium, live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9.

 

First Period: The opening period was tough, with both Marquette High School Hockey and Houghton starting strong and holding their ground. Second Period: The beginning of the second period saw a remarkable play by Marquette High School Hockey, scoring a crucial goal to take the lead 1-0. Cole Kelly, representing the stellar performance of Marquette High School Hockey, continued making key saves to defend their goal. However, Houghton managed to sneak one past Kelly, tying up the game in this period.

Third Period: The puck moved back and forth in the third period, but unfortunately, technical difficulties disrupted the connection to the announcers at the beginning of the period. Despite the challenges, it was clear that at 2 minutes left on the clock, the score remained tied at 1-1. The game proceeded into overtime, with the final 10 seconds ticking away without either Marquette High School Hockey or Houghton securing a decisive goal. The result was a tie, meaning that Houghton would go home with the title of Champions of the Great Lakes Hockey Tournament.
