Marquette, MI – January 7th, 2022 -The Marquette Redmen Hockey team dominated Bay Reps 5-0 in a home victory. John Thompsen and Joe Gaffney had the call live on WFXDH2.

The Bay Reps won the puck to start the game with a chance to set the tone for the game. 1:18 minutes into the game there was a quick icing call made. Jake Garrow got the pass from Kody Moyer and got the puck to go in the net, giving Marquette the 1-0 lead in the first period. The Redmen got the puck back and Ethan Phillips got a shot off but it was just wide of the goal. Garrett Hathaway of the Reps got a clutch save for the Bay Reps to prevent Marquette from getting a 2-0 lead. The Redmen were playing aggressively and the puck was tipped to center ice, there was an icing call but it was quickly waved off. The Redmen intercepted Bay Reps’ cross ice pass but decided to slow the pace down and reload offensively. Marquette had a chance to extend their lead but the puck went just over the crossbar.

End of 1st Period: Marquette 1, Bay Reps 0

Joe DeMattia got a shot off quickly to start the second period but it missed just right over the crossbar. The Reps nearly scored but Moyer made sure that didn’t happen and he cleared the puck. Jack Sides broke up the Reps’ play and cleared the puck. The Redmen had 2 straight goal shots but Hathaway of the Reps blocked both of the shots. Marquette extended their lead to 2-0 when Ethan Phillips dished the puck to Tucker Welch who put the puck in the net. Moyer had a two on 1 and got the puck to Garrow but the shot was just wide. Rylan Ragusett got his first goal of the season and gave the Redmen an even bigger lead, 3-0. Brayden Grange had a chance to give the Redmen a 4-0 lead to end the second period but Hathaway chased the puck down.

End of 2nd Period: Marquette 3, Bay Reps 0

Marquette came out of the gates aggressive and Kody Moyer got a goal for the Redmen, extending their lead to 4-0 over Bay Reps.  Moyer walked in and nearly got another goal but the shot missed wide. Jack Sides got a nice pass to Ethan Phillips who would score his seventh goal of the year, giving Marquette the 5-0 lead. Marquette was 0/4 on power play’s and they tried to change that. Garrow walked in and got a shot off but missed wide on the long side. Garrow once again had a shot after beating his man but missed the backhanded shot.

Final Score: Marquette 5, Bay Reps 0

Next Game: The Marquette Hockey Team is right back in action tomorrow, January 8th, as they’ll take on Bay Reps once again. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m. with John Thompsen and Joe Gaffney on the call on WFXDH2 and the online stream!
