Marquette Redmen Basketball Takes Home 54-30 Victory Against Houghton Gremlins

Houghton, MIMarch 9, 2021 – The Marquette Redmen boys basketball team took home a 54-30 victory against the Houghton Gremlins on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.

Jordan DeMay started things off for Marquette with a triple to bring the score to 3-0. The Gremlins responded with a triple of their own, but the Redmen stayed out in front at 6-3 in the early stages of the period. John Weber sunk a bucket from downtown to help improve Marquette to 13-3 as the Redmen began to pull away from the Gremlins.

The Gremlins could not stand up to the Marquette pressure. The Redmen took a 19-3 lead into the second quarter.

Lincoln Sager put up a double to help the Redmen get to 23-3 to start things off in the second. The Gremlins put up a couple buckets to help close their sizeable deficit, the score 26-7. Houghton then came up with a triple, but the Redmen answered right back.

The Gremlins struggled to make any real headway against Marquette as the minutes ticked down, though Houghton were outscored by Marquette by only three points in the quarter. The score settled at 32-13 going into the half.

The second half got off to a slow start for the Redmen, but the Gremlins were largely quiet in the early going.

Marquette started to heat up as the Redmen lead stretched out to 42-13, Ty Lotterman and Kameron Karp taking care of business. Connor Johnson put up a triple to improve to 45-13.

The Gremlins could not come up with much of an answer to the red hot Redmen in the third quarter, the score 50-15 going into the final quarter of play.

There was no doubt the Redmen would take home the victory this evening. The fourth quarter proved slightly more productive for the Gremlins, but there was no catching up with the massive Marquette lead. The final score was 54-30.
